What can Council do to help children and young people grow up in a healthy and connected Maribyrnong?

Council’s Strategy for Children, Young People and their Families 2030 sets out how we will support children, young people and families to grow up safe, healthy, connected and supported in our community. The strategy focuses on six key areas, including wellbeing, learning, participation, culture and identity, and guides Council’s work through to 2030.

We are developing our 2026/27 Annual Action Plan to respond to changing community needs. This builds on earlier feedback we received in 2024, when you told us more outdoor play spaces, more support for families and more youth activities would support the health and wellbeing of young people in our community.

How your input will help

Your feedback will help Council understand what’s working, identify gaps and priorities, and shape future actions. It will directly inform the 2026/27 and future Annual Action Plans, ensuring Council’s efforts reflect the experiences and needs of local children, young people and families.

Learn more about the Strategy, and share your thoughts by Sunday 28 June 2026.

What you can influence

  • What you can help shape

    We want your ideas about:

    • How Council runs programs, services, places and information.
    • How Council can help everyone feel welcome and included.
    • When Council should work with others, or speak up on your behalf.
  • What's out of scope

Some things are set already and can't be changed:

    • State and Federal laws, like child safety legislation, and social media bans.
    • Decisions that go beyond Council's budget or role.
    • The overall goals of Children, Young People and Their Families 2030 Strategy.

By the numbers – support for children, young people and their families

Strategy objectives

Our Children, Young People and Their Families Strategy is based on trusted research from the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY), called the Nest Framework.
