What would you do at the performing arts venue?

Help us see whether your needs have changed for a performance arts venue and how you'd interact with the space. Share your thoughts below.

Between 2019-2020, we engaged with 1,255 community members on the future of Creative West.

For the performing arts element, you told us:

  • you wanted talks, theatre, and family entertainment offered at the performance venue
  • some respondents wanted rehearsal spaces available
  • you would pay to see Fringe Festival acts, local artists, and comedians perform at Creative West, among others.

In April 2025, Council endorsed the New Horizons: Creative Maribyrnong 2030 Strategy (Creative Maribyrnong Strategy). This five-year strategy sets out a vision for a City where creativity flourishes in every corner – from our bustling streets and creative precincts, to our community centres and everyday lives.

During both engagement phases we heard:

  • respondents enjoy festivals, public art and live music, and wanted to see more live music, performing arts and festivals
  • there are a lack of available arts and culture activities locally
  • music, dance and events are important
  • barriers to participation include time, lack of opportunities and money.

Across all engagement channels there were calls for more live music generally, (including in the Footscray CBD) and to support more music festivals. You can learn more by reading the Engagement Summary Report.
