Help shape the designs for Creative West

We're looking for interested community members to be part of a small group that will work closely with the architects, design team and key local stakeholders to shape what Creative West looks like (a co-design process).

You don’t need any special skills or experience to take part – just a love and interest in your local community!

Creative West is a landmark project that will revitalise the Footscray CBD, providing a welcoming place for everyone in the community to gather, learn new skills, attend events, and experience culture in the heart of Footscray. Creative West will be made up of three elements including:

  • A world-class library supporting learning, creativity and innovation.
  • A performing arts venue supporting creatives and inspiring audiences across the west.
  • A shaded and green town park for wellbeing, recreation, gathering and events.

There will also be car parking to improve visitors experience to the area.

During February, Council is talking to the community and stakeholder groups about their ideas for Creative West and checking in on what has been heard already.

Following this, a co-design group will meet and work closely with Council, the Design Team (architects and other specialists) and a range of key stakeholders to develop a concept design for Creative West that best responds to community and future user needs and creates a local source of pride.

The co-design group will:

  • be made up of around 20 – 30 participants.
  • include a good mix of people to broadly represent the Maribyrnong community including people of different ages, genders, backgrounds and connections to Footscray
  • meet over several workshops during March to May 2026 for approximately 9 hours in total
  • receive a small payment to support their participation (e.g. to cover transport costs).

You don’t need any prior knowledge or experience to take part. A role on the co-design group will involve:

  • representing and thinking about the broader Maribyrnong community as part of discussions and contributions;
  • considering community feedback about the project and other Council data and information;
  • discussing ideas, considering trade-offs and testing potential options for the design;
  • working collaboratively together with group members; and
  • attending group sessions in-person.

Co-design group members need to be 18 years and over and live in the City of Maribyrnong.

Members will be selected using the criteria outlined in the EOI form.

Please note: not all people who submit an Expression of Interest will be selected. Group members will be randomly selected using the criteria. This will be done by independent consultants.

Register your interest by filling in the form below.
