Consultation has concluded
The Footscray Park Masterplan 2011 sought to preserve and improve the landscape character, usability and facilities within the park to attract greater visitation. It has guided improvements and developments across the park, including the Maribyrnong Boulevard carpark, Mills Close Steps, the regional all-abilities playspace, public toilet, picnic areas and broad scale tree planting.
Council has now updated the Footscray Park Masterplan to reflect completion of these upgrades and incorporate a number of new initiatives including free public wifi, new walking paths, and improved interfaces with Victoria University.
Footscray Park will continue to be the premier site for Council's festival/celebrations program ensuring the New Year's Eve celebrations and other community festivals continue to operate from the park.
To increase youth and women's sport participation, the Masterplan also shows the location of a potential junior football academy located in partnership with Melbourne Victory Football Club (MVFC). The MVFC football Academy would focus on women's and junior participation with W-league (women's football) and Youth League. MVFC would become available to Maribyrnong clubs including Club Victory, Victory for Girls, U-NITE and Victory for Schools.
Community access to the facilities would be encouraged outside of playing and training times. This is subject to planning permission and other approvals; the conditions of any future lease are yet to be finalized. We are now calling on the community to let us know what you think!
