Consultation has concluded
Our city’s vibrancy is showcased in our variety of cafes, restaurants and entertainment destinations. Licensed premises contribute vitality to an area by activating streetscapes, providing passive surveillance and enhancing identity as an entertainment/tourism destination.
Council is proposing a licensed premises policy to guide decisions on planning permit applications. The policy aims to promote the positive aspects of licensed premises whilst minimising any negatives. Although State Government regulates liquor licensing, Council is able to encourage certain matters through the planning system. This includes ensuring appropriate location, venue design, hours of operation and car parking.
The proposed Licensed Premises Policy and associated changes to the Maribyrnong Planning Scheme are known as Amendment C141. The amendment is being publicly exhibited from 17 November to 19 December 2016.
