As the suburb of Maribyrnong continues to grow, so too does the demand for community facilities.
To help plan for this, we’ll be talking to service providers and program managers to understand how existing facilities are currently being used, as part of a feasibility study to inform the development of a draft Maribyrnong Precinct Community Facilities Study.
If we are to manage future needs for this community, it’s important we also hear from residents, users, and neighbours of these facilities to understand what is important to you and what you think is needed to support your growing community going forward.
This could include upgrades to existing facilities, new facilities, changes to programs or services, or the introduction of new programs and services, for example.
There are six Council-owned facilities in the suburb currently:
- Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre
- Maribyrnong Community Centre
- Maribyrnong Kindergarten
- Maribyrnong Library
- Maribyrnong Reserve / Raleigh Road Activity Centre and
- Maribyrnong River Children’s Centre.
Renovations will soon begin at the Maribyrnong Community Centre, to help address an already identified shortage of kinder spaces, with two existing rooms to be modified to accommodate up to 66 toddlers. While this will increase the capacity of early learning services in the short term, we know growth is outstripping the provision of a host of other services as well.
That’s why we’re keen to hear from you to identify where you see the gaps are for the future so we can understand what is important to you and what you think you need to support your growing community going forward.
You can share your thoughts with us by placing a comment on the map, sharing your initial thoughts in the short questionnaire below, placing an idea on our ideas wall, visiting one of our face-to-face information sessions – or doing all four if you like.
We welcome your comments from now until Sunday 20 February 2022.
After this, we’ll be collating all the feedback before exploring options to meet future needs, when we’ll be continuing the conversation with you.
