Junior bike skills track and regional playground

Hansen Reserve, West Footscray is set to become a destination point in Maribyrnong with a new junior bike skills track and playground planned for early 2020.

Council is working on designs for both the playground and bike skills track and would love to hear your thoughts on what you would like included.

The improvement works are a part of the Hansen Reserve Masterplan which was developed following community consultation and Council endorsement in 2018. The plan provides a blueprint to enhance access, character, infrastructure, sustainability and recreational opportunities.

Regional grade playground

The new playground will service the local population and the wider municipality.

It will contain iconic features which engage the senses, fuel the imagination and provide a physical challenge for people of all ages and abilities.

It is envisaged that the historic use of parts of Hansen Reserve as a quarry will be conveyed through the use of stone, steel and timber in the design.

Play favourites such as slides, swings, sand and rope play elements and elevated platforms will sit alongside bespoke elements.

Junior bike skills track

The junior bike skills track will be a place for young riders to learn and improve their bicycle skills in a fun and safe off-road environment.

In 2018 Bike West, a local community cycling advocacy group, secured partial State Government funding for design and installation of a bike track.

Maribyrnong City Council will also contribute funds to deliver the project in 2020.
