Consultation has concluded

We’re now entering the final phase of engagement to support the development of the Long Term Financial Plan (Financial Plan).

This document considers both the current financial situation and projections of future directions to support the delivery of the projects, initiatives, and programs that our community thinks is most important for our City over the next 10 years.

Over recent months, there have been a number of opportunities for our community to inform the draft document, including as part of conversations to inform the Council Plan, Annual Budget, and Revenue and Rating Plan.

During our most recent community engagement, in July, 340 people provided additional feedback on revenue and spending and capital works priorities. Their comments demonstrated support for increased spending on the likes of community centres, early years, health and wellbeing, and youth services as well as parks, open spaces, waste management, active transport, and open space planning. Whereas, reductions were preferred in rates and staff costs.

NeXT (the Footscray Library Community and Cultural Hub) was the most supported project along with street tree planting and bicycle and pedestrian upgrades.

Have we got it right? Formal feedback phase

After considering community feedback, on 17 August 2021, Council endorsed the Draft Financial Plan, which is now being shared for formal comment.

You can view the document here or download it from the document library to the right.

As well as the legislative requirements and key strategic actions, it provides information on:

  • the challenges and opportunities, including the impacts of climate change, COVID-19, and growth
  • the assumptions that underpin the numbers
  • where income will come from – and how revenue will be spent, including fixed costs; and
  • strategies for managing financial performance

We welcome your feedback on any or all of these elements.
