Laneway upgrades are coming soon!

Upgrades will soon commence along the laneway that connects Barkly and Elphinstone streets.

These upgrades aim to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in the area and follow community feedback received in mid-2022.

We are installing:

  • new handrail-based lighting that will illuminate the length of the lane for additional security
  • a new resurfaced lane, making the lane smooth and easier to walk and ride along
  • new pram ramps on Clive Street to improve access to the lane
  • new wayfinding signs to direct people into Barkly Village
  • additional signage and line markings on Clive Street to alert drivers that it is a dead end street
  • new bollards to prevent vehicle access into the laneway (maintenance vehicles accepted)
  • new artwork from a local artist at four entry points on the lane, as well as on new power boxes

Works are scheduled to commence from July 2023. There will be some noise associated with the works and in an effort to reduce the impact on residents, works will occur from 7am-5pm on weekdays, and some weekends between 8am-12pm.

If you have any questions please email CD@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au
