Revisiting our strategy for children, young people and their families

Children and young people today will be deciding how the world is going to be in the future.

To help children and young people in the City of Maribyrnong to get the best start and best out life, Council developed its Strategy for Children, Young People and their Families 2030, to help guide our work with infants and young people (from birth through to 25 years of age) and their families.

Based on the needs of children, young people, and families who live, study, work, and use services in our municipality, the Strategy supports Council's decision-making around program development and delivery, planning, partnerships, and advocacy.

The Strategy was informed by more than 1,100 contributions from the community - this included speaking with 244 children through early years learning and care services and playgroups; workshops with 161 middle years' children in Grades 5 and 6; a survey for young people, parents, and carers; and local and national research.

As well as a commitment to review the Strategy every three years, Council recognises the changing environment since it was endorsed in 2020, particularly in regards to the pandemic.

This is why we engaged during the first part of 2024 to ensure the Strategy objectives and over 50 actions remain relevant to our community.

We're currently reviewing your feedback with a view to updating the Strategy, and sharing it back with you later in 2024 or early 2025.

The Annual Action Plan Highlights from the last three years of the Strategy implementation can be found in the document library.

Our strategic objectives and goals, which are consistent with the NEST agenda, are:
