Consultation has concluded
The Maribyrnong River is a prized natural asset to our community and attracts visitors from across Melbourne with its rolling parklands, picnic spots, meandering riverside bike paths and formal gardens such as Footscray Park.
In 2014/15 Council developed a River’s Edge Masterplan to guide future planning and development along the river to ensure its continued use and improved amenity.
The Masterplan identifies areas of key significance and the Footscray Promenade area between Shepherd and Hopetoun Bridges is singled out for its great recreation potential.
Following community consultation, Council has produced the Footscray Promenade Concept Plan to maximise the River’s edge potential with new cycling paths, a restoration of the wharf, a new pavilion, new seating and BBQ areas and more.
